Kim Murray supporting children to process their feelings

Children’s Mental Health Coach UK – Support for Young People & Families

Childhood is the foundation of your mental health and wellbeing. It's this time in your life that forms a blueprint for who you believe you are and how you see the world around you. Happy Heads specialises in teaching children, teens and families because these are the most invaluable years of your life.

The human brain continues to develop until we are 25 years old. The last part to form is your prefrontal cortex, which is your brain’s ability to self regulate your emotions. This is why children and teens have big emotions, meltdowns and tantrums because they aren’t able to self regulate their emotions.

Meditation and Tapping are two gentle but powerful techniques that help children and teens come back to a place of calm when they need it most. Children and Teen Wellbeing Programmes help kids learn strategies to reduce anxiety, process their emotions, release their fears, improve their confidence and build emotional resilience.

Support for Young Children

“Instead of ignoring a child’s emotions or distracting them from how they feel, we can teach them how to connect with and make sense of their experiences. This builds emotional intelligence and resilience”

Daniel Siegel - The Whole-Brain Child

Happy Heads approach is different because I understand how every child is unique. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach. I create tailored sessions that work around your child and their individual needs. Empowering them with techniques that help them regulate their nervous system making them feel safe, calm and confident.

When you cultivate emotional resilience for children you help children navigate life’s big transitions.

Teen Wellbeing & Resilience

“Adolescence is not a period of being 'crazy' or 'immature.' It is an essential time of emotional intensity, social engagement, and creativity.”

Daniel J. Siegel, Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain

The teenage brain is incredible! In this enlightening video, Dr Dan Siegel unveils the intricacies of the adolescent brain's remodeling process, offering insights into the behaviors and motivations of young individuals during this transformative period.

“The adolescent brain is a construction zone and the changes in the brain in this period create the 'essence' of adolescence: creativity, innovation, the capacity for abstract thinking and the drive for experimentation.”

Daniel Siegel, Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain

Teenage Wellbeing Support can Help in Many Ways

The teenage years can feel exciting but also overwhelming. With so much change happening in their brains, bodies, and social worlds, it’s normal for teens to feel uncertain, stressed, or disconnected at times. As a youth wellbeing coach I create programmes that create a safe space for your teen to explore their emotions, build resilience, and develop practical tools to navigate life with more confidence.

  • Confidence and Self Belief - Empowering your teen with techniques that help them overcome their limiting beliefs, release self doubt and build confidence in themselves.

  • Exam Stress - Practical tools to manage the pressure of exams, helping them find their focus and clarity.

  • Stress and Anxiety - Simple techniques to bring their nervous system back into balance when they need it most, feeling more calm and grounded.

  • Friendship Changes - Helping your teen navigate the ups and downs of friendships with loving kindness and self compassion.

  • Bullying - A safe space for your teen to process their emotions, rebuild their confidence and create strategies to protect their boundaries and energy.

  • Navigating Loss - Helping your teen make sense of grief, process their emotions and reconnect with the energy of the loved one they’ve lost.

  • Emotional Resilience - Building your teen’s ability to navigate any challenges that come their way with courage and strength.

What Does a Children’s Wellbeing Coach Do?

Happy Heads approach is very different to normal therapies because I tailor sessions to your child’s unique needs and brain.

Some children love animal breathwork, others like guided meditation, some deeply connect with tapping, others need to move their body, some children love colour, others like sound, some children want to draw, others like to sing, some children regulate by sitting upside down, others like to use cuddly toys - no two children are the same.

With children you have to teach intuitively otherwise it doesn’t work. I will have a rough plan of what the session should involve but will very much see how their energy is on the day.

Your Child’s Wellbeing Journey: What to Expect

  • Consultation Call - a free 20 minute call to discuss your child or teen, how you’re feeling, what their challenges are and talk through how a wellbeing programme could support them.

  • Set Intentions - a set of confidential pre questions to help you and them identify their worries and how they  want to feel at the end of the programme.

  • Private Sessions  3 - 5  x 45 min sessions tailored to their personal needs and interests  include breathwork, meditation and tapping.

  • Support & Resources - after each session you get an email that gives an overview of the session, guided meditations for them to listen to and tapping videos to watch. You will also get some meditations to listen to so that you can rebuild your own inner resources over the programme. With young children you really see results when they see the parent also does the techniques with them.

  • Outcomes - at the end of the Wellbeing Programme they will have a full ‘toolbox of calm’ that they can use anytime they need to help strengthen their brilliant brains and feel more calm, content and confident.

    • Online vs in-person? All sessions are done online via Zoom so perfect to do from the comfort of your own home. You can set your child up with a calm space in your home and most kids enjoy some privacy during the session but you can of course sit in if you would prefer. Always ask your child what they want.

    • Is coaching confidential for kids/teens? Yes! Everything that happens in the session is completely confidential. With young children I always send out support information that highlights what we went through in the session  any worries that came up. Some parents like a short 20 min de-brief the next day.

For teens I think it’s really important to respect their privacy but ask them if they would be open to sharing their experience with you and any worries or challenges that came up. If anything concerning comes up that I think you should know about, I will highlight it immediately.

    • How is progress measured? Your child or teen will say how they want to feel after the programme in a set of confidential pre questions. We will then be able to see whether how they are feeling at the end of the programme aligns with their goals.

Together we can help your child or teen feel more calm, happy and confident…

Parent Testimonials

“I got in contact with Kim after my son (13) was struggling to sleep after being bullied at school. He was displaying anxiety and we had tried sleep apps, aromatherapy, massage without any luck. Kim was helpful, kind and pitched the session well for a teenager. He left feeling energised and was excited about the exercises he had been taught. His session was followed up with a personalised plan and download he could listen to should his systems reoccur. I would thoroughly recommend Kim to anyone”

Lisa

“Edward’s teacher said he’s had a really good day - both morning and afternoon. This has never EVER happened and the only factor that is different is you!! Thank you so much”

Sarah

“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. Josh seems happy and was really buzzing and excited to tell me all about it when we left yours”
