Over ten years ago, I hit complete burnout in my marketing career at Red Bull. I was overworked, constantly striving to please others, and living in a permanent state of fight-or-flight. Eventually, my nervous system couldn’t cope, and I lost my mental health, one of the most frightening experiences of my life.

Overcoming burnout and understanding the connection it had to the loss of my dad to suicide when I was seven was one of the main reasons I started Happy Heads to help anyone feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. What is Burnout?

Burnout is a state of mental and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged and excessive stress. It’s chronic stress to the point of nervous system overwhelm and has a long lasting impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.

What is happening in your nervous system when you’re burning out?

Anytime you feel stressed or anxious your nervous system goes into the fight-flight response (sympathetic nervous system) and gets primed to fight a perceived threat (heart races, digestive system slows down, muscles tense, immune system suppressed and breathing gets shallow)

In short doses this stress response is fine as your nervous system is able to come back into a place a of balance (parasympathetic). When you are chronically stressed, which can often happen in the workplace, too much cortisol flooding your body means it cannot function properly, which is why burnout has such a damaging impact on both your physical and mental wellbeing.

This constant state of fight-or-flight creates anxiety, which can then lead into severe anxiety and that can easily lead into depression or a ultimately a state of burnout. Your nervous system reaches the point where it's completely frazzled and your brain can't function properly.

Clarify Goals - a set of confidential pre questions help you clarify your goals and what you want to work on throughout the burnout programme.

Private Sessions - each 1.5hr session is tailored to your goals and includes breathwork, meditation and a full round of Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping)

Support & Resources - after each session you get an email that includes your breathing technique, affirmations to use, guided meditations to listen to and  tapping videos to watch
