Parent Wellbeing Support UK

Becoming a parent is one of life’s most rewarding experiences but it can also be stressful, exhausting and at times overwhelming. From the moment you wake up until your head hits the pillow (and often in the middle of the night too), the demands feel non-stop.

Tantrums, meltdowns, big emotions, sleep deprivation, and the constant juggling of tiny humans’ needs can leave even the most patient parent running on empty.

Parent Wellbeing Support

Happy Heads shows busy parents how to re-prioritise self-care with simple, science-backed techniques and positive parenting tools. Personalised 1:1 coaching and Parent Wellbeing Programmes help you feel calmer, more grounded, and more connected to your children, even on the busiest days.

Parenting doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Your wellbeing matters, and you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Take a moment for yourself…

Why the Inner Child Matters in Parenting

When you become a parent it naturally makes you reflect on your own childhood, your positive experiences and your negative ones. You have an incredible opportunity to do things differently and break generational negative patterns (for example, shouting, punishments, putting your kids down, making love conditional). The problem is when a wounded inner child becomes a parent, those wounds (often unconsciously) get passed down.

After a decade of working with parents I see over and over again how much the inner child affects the way you react to your own children often through triggers, patterns or fears. Healing your inner child helps you respond with patience, empathy and love.

Ways the Inner Child Can Show Up in Parenting

Tantrums trigger you - Your child’s big emotions can awaken the part of you that wasn’t allowed to express feelings safely.

Boundaries feel uncomfortable - Saying “no” can stir the inner child in you who feared rejection or wanted to be liked at all costs.
Struggles with soothing - Comforting your child feels hard when your inner child never learned what comfort really felt like.
Perfectionism takes over - The pressure to be a “perfect parent” often comes from the inner child who felt they had to achieve to be worthy of love.
Validation seeking - Wanting your child’s good behaviour or success to prove your worth comes from the inner child who longed for approval.
Repeating old patterns - The way you were parented lives on in your inner child, and without healing, those patterns repeat unconsciously (shouting, reacting with anger, punishments)
Feeling invisible - Getting frustrated when your needs go unmet can echo the inner child who once felt unseen or unheard.

Why Parental Wellbeing Matters

The human brain continues to develop until we are 25 years old. The last part to form is your prefrontal cortex, which is your brain’s ability to self regulate your emotions. This is why children often have meltdowns, tantrums and big emotions because they aren’t able to self regulate their emotions.

These can often be the hardest parts of parenting - remaining calm when your child is dysregulated.

A child needs their attachment figures (parent or caregiver’s) nervous system to help them regulate their own. This is called co-regulation and is essential for children to develop a healthy mental health and wellbeing.

This is why the best gift any parent can give their children is to look after their own mental health and wellbeing  - because it has a direct impact on how calm, safe and regulated they feel.
