“The happy heads retreat was the perfect reset button for me. The retreat was a brilliant combination of self help tricks, reflection and goal setting. Kim is a truly wonderful facilitator who draws on her own experiences and struggles to help her clients rationalise and work trough theirs. I would highly reccomend this retreat to anyone, those with specific areas they want to work on, or those who want to book in and just get a life MOT, it’s a fantastic course I would love to do all over again." “I have just finished the Happy Heads Retreat and really cannot recommend it highly enough. As someone with a chronic neurological condition I have suffered with worry, self-doubt and anxiety most of my adult life. Kim delivers the sessions in a very calm and gentle manner and she has such a reassuring way about her which really helped me to believe I could achieve what I wanted to. The retreat left me feeling truly empowered. If you want to make a change in your life then I urge you to try it for yourself."

TAPPING FOR TIRED MUMS

Being a mum to a little one can feel really challenging because you are often sleep deprived and that's tough! When you’ve had a bad nights sleep there is a 66% amplification to your brains amygdala (fear response) which means:
- It’s easy to feel more anxious
- Harder to think clearly and focus
- Easier to think negatively
- Harder to self regulate your emotions
- Your nervous system may feel frazzled and more sensitive
- You may feel floaty and like you’re on another planet

Whilst I can’t give you the gift of sleep I do know how to calm your nervous system, which is all you need to do on days when you’ve had zero sleep and you'll be surprised at how much more awake you feel afterwards!

TAPPING ON UNCERTAINTY

The world is a bit of a crazy place to live in right now because so many things are uncertain and if you read the news your brain will be filled on a daily basis by things that can make you feel overwhelmed, anxious and panicked (I stopped reading it a while ago for this very reason). The 'unknown' is a very common anxiety trigger because the brain can easily think up the 'worst case scenario' and then the mind starts to believe what it's imagining and that creates more anxiety - it's a dangerous spiral to go down. The difficult thing about this particular anxiety trigger is that we ultimately don't know what the future holds because we're not mystic meg with a crystal ball. We have to find space within ourselves to be comfortable with uncertainty and start to gently rewire your neurological pathways to believe in the positive possibilities that the future may hold.

Tapping is a powerful way at bringing your whole nervous system back into the present moment and bringing stillness to your busy mind. It's the perfect tool for reducing anxiety, so why don't you try it now for 10 mins?

7 MINUTE TAPPING MEDITATION

Do you struggle with meditation? Do you find it really hard and often want to give up? You’re not alone! We have such busy, distracted minds these days that most people find meditating really tough.

Tapping is a wonderful way to meditate when the more traditional routes aren't working for you. The physical movement is incredibly grounding, which is why so many people find it more beneficial at focussing the mind on the present moment.

This is also a great meditation technique for any adult or child that is on the spectrum. The rhythmic tapping can often feel like a much more affective way to calm the nervous system rather than trying to sit still, which may have the opposite to effect.

Watch this video to see a 7 minute Tapping Meditation (suitable for all ages) that will help calm and soothe both your body and mind.

TAPPING ON BURNOUT

I’ve faced many difficult things in my life but burnout was one of the most traumatic. Completely losing your mental health is terrifying and it takes time for your nervous system to recover. Overcoming burnout and learning how to nurture my mental health and wellbeing was profound and one of the reasons I'm so passionate about helping people do the same.

Watch this video to see how you can use tapping to process burnout and bring your nervous system back into some much needed balance.

STOP WORRYING

worry.jpg

If everything seemed to be going great in my life I genuinely used to worry that, if I didn’t worry - something bad would happen. Put your hands up if you do that! This is 100% an anxious thought and not something that your brain needs to think.
.
I’ve now worked on this particular negative thought, so I’m able to quickly reframe my thoughts if ever it starts to creep into my mind. For me personally I know it comes from losing my dad at the age of 7. Before that I never worried about bad things happening and then something bad did happen - so this is why I used to have this anxious thought.
.
A great way to reduce the intensity of your negative thoughts is to identify where it may have come from. Become a memory detective and see if you can make any links - gently reflecting back. Don’t worry too much if you can’t make any links, you can still reframe your thoughts.
.
Always remember that there's no need to worry if things are going smoothly in life - you deserve to be happy. Life can always throw you curve balls but it has no correlation to whether you worry about it or not so stop the worry and trust the process.

THE NEGATIVITY BIAS

Screenshot 2019-07-24 at 13.01.59.png

Have you ever found yourself ruminating on over a past comment or mistake? We tend to dwell over negative memories far longer than positive ones. The reason being - negative events have a greater impact on our brains than positive ones. This is often referred to as our ’negative bias’ - exhausting right!

“Our tendency to pay more attention to bad things and overlook good things is likely a result of evolution. Earlier in human history, paying attention to bad, dangerous, and negative threats in the world was literally a matter of life and death. Those who were more attuned to danger and who paid more attention to the bad things around them were more likely to survive. The evolutionary perspective suggests that this tendency to dwell on the negative more than the positive is simply one way the brain tries to keep us safe” - Kendra Cherry ‘Very Well Mind’

The next time you find yourself ruminating over the past - take a minute to STOP, PAUSE & BREATH. Remember that this is an evolutionary brain process that you no longer need to succumb to there is no perceived danger. Ruminating over the past is a guaranteed way to create anxiety so focus on the present moment to strengthen your neurological pathways and reduce your worries. The body and breath are amazing tools to help anchor you in the moment - use them as often as you can.
